This question has been haunting me since the release of the GTX280s and the HD4870.

Depends wether you have the cash..From the 8800GTX i would think that you wont get that much mroe performance from the 4870...If you were to upgrade you should get the 280... -

To be honest, no. You're not going to get any huge performance gains unless you shell out a lot of money. Your GTX is still good and will most likely tide you over until the Q4 software and hardware sales rush.Comment

Your GTX will do you fine for some time ahead. My GTS plays pretty much any game I want on highest settings so I'm fine for a while

Well, on the cash side, i dont wanna be paying that much if i can get something for half the price of what Nvidia has to offer for an ATi product that offers same or mathcing perfromance.
Alex and I'Que thnx, what you guys said pretty much sums it up. Alex what do you say if i wait till June of 2009, is that going to be enough wait.
I am heading to Uni for my second yr on Sept., and well want to get some new hardware but not till the begining of summer of 2009. Hopefully my GTX wont loose it to games ike Warhead, FC2, and BiA Hells Highway.Comment

I would wait until Q4 08 (the last quarter of 08, around Christmas). Hardware and software companies will be pushing new products in time for Christmas.Comment

If your computer plays Crysis with decent framerates you'll probably be able to play FC2 as well. Since the Cryengine 2 is one of the most demanding engines this far I think you should be good with the other games as well (although maybe not with all eye candy turned on, you never know)Comment

you would get around 1/3 more frames with the 4870, and maybe a little more with the GTX 280 depending on the game
I wouldnt bother unless you have some cash lying around for that doesnt need to be spent on something more importantComment

Well i usually trn off the AA in games. I play good in Crysis, except for minimal lag at times.
Alex how cheap do you think the E8*** series of Intel is going to be around that sales that your talking bout?Comment
