    Pc spaz attack!

Hey guys and girls, was wondering if someone could give me some advice to a bit of a problem im having.

On loading up some games, mainly trackmania, my machine totally spaz's out on me. My sound starts jumping, graphics freeze and im totally locked out of my machine for about 5 mins. Once it finally comes around, my game minimizes and up pops my realtek HD audio manager saying a jack has been plugged in, when infact it hasnt. Nothing has been installed recently and all drivers are up to date. Ive done all sorts of scans and everything has come out clean. Any ideas?

    System specs...

Microsoft windows xp (didnt like Vista :p)
    Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3L
    Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600
    Memory: 2046MB
Gfx: NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS (512)

    And im using onboard sound.

Open Realtek HD Audio Manager > Device Advanced Settings (top right) > On mine I have: "Mute Rear when front headphone is plugged in" for Playback and "Tie up same type of input jacks" for Recording... Might work...

I'm not too sure how to fix it, but it sounds like driver error/conflict or something e.g. Trackmania is trying to use HD sound but you only have AC97 or something like that :?

Might have to download a codec pack... though someone else might know what to do

Sounds like your sound drivers are crashing. The first thing i would do is reinstall the game, but do a clean with "Ccleaner" (google it) after reintalling, but before reinstalling. Hopefully that will work.

If not, i suggest you do a sound driver reinstall. If you were ever planning on buying a sound card, do it now because that'll be one way around the issue. If not, reinstall the sound drivers and clean with CCleaner in the middle again.

      Report back.

Hmmmmm. Well before i try all of that i done a system restore to an earlier date just before the problem started, and woop, everything was working fine. I spent ages playing Trackmania last night :) This morning automatic updates kicked in and i was prompted to restart to complete the installation etc and guess what, problems again. Loaded up TM and my machine totally went ballistic on me.

Sounds like Trackmania is somehow corrupting your sound drivers. I would do some research on the subject as there may be a patch or workaround.
