Network Bar on Laptop gone AWOL, HELP!

Good Morning

My Wifi Network bar, that shows how strong of the WiFi Signal I’m picking up, suddenly went Missing In Action next to my clock, I went to right click, properties on my start menu, but the option to turn it back on is greyed out , I’m on a Vista Home Version Laptop.

check the network adapters in the device manager. If the wireless network controller has disappeared you can try taking the laptop apart and re-seating it, but you will most likely need a new wireless adapter if it is not showing up there.

He wouldn't need to do that, his wireless works fine... he just doesn't have the option to show the network bar to see how good the signal is... so it's likely being disabled somewhere but I don't know where... :o

What's the one near the battery? Did you install new drivers or software that may have replaced the Windows one?

One near the battery is some stupid thing to turn the WiFi on and off, but no the right one.

Vista tends to download drivers for hardware with its update procedure. It may have installed some from there which has messed up the old ones. Check to see what it says in device manager under network adaptors n such.

My guess would be to download updated drivers then remove all the installed drivers for the wireless card then and put the new ones on.
