      Master/slave jumpers?

I don't know if you even need those on new hard drives now....

what ^^ said: make sure your bios is seeing the drive. if your bios isn't seeing the drive, you've got your jumpers zigging when they should be zagging, or you've got your secondary drive plugged in wrong...? then do what ^ said, look in your device manager.

IF you get your drive recognized by your bios, then for me, with a new sata drive, i had to go into msservices:

start-->control panel-->administrative services-->computer management-->disk management and make sure my o/s (xp) gave my drive a letter and had an accessible partition setup

as for the restarts when you turn off...that's your pc telling you you haven't logged into bf2 in 8 months, and bf2 wants you back. at least in my experience. or it might be the soft park feature on your hd that won't let the os let it stop spinning until it's actually recognized...or it could be a bad hd. both of those are towards edge of what's possibly going wrong.

final possibility is your old (?) sata drivers may not like your new HD.

IF the new hard drive is not pre-partitioned and pre-formatted, then you have to do it yourself. There should be disk manager some where so that you can create partition and format it.

Yup, go there and you should see the disk. Then choose to format it. Next reboot the drive should appear.

And, SATA drives no longer have "Master" and "Slave" jumpers. It was just IDE and i'm glad they changed it as you get odd looks when talking about masters and slaves in the pub :|:

Okay so, IDE/ATA are old, had the thick ribbon cable, and needed the jumpers. SATA is new, uses the smaller cable and doesn't need jumpers, right?

And how come my CD drive in my Dell stills uses ATA to connect, even through the hard drive is SATA?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I'm a bit confused lol.

                Yea, IDE was ribbon cables.

DVD drives took longer to switch. However, most CD/DVD drives are now SATA.

                  Always use cable select.

You people remind me the horrid days that only master from IDE1 can boot.

I assume that fan is sucking air "into" the heatsink right?

I hope your assumption is correct lol, i sure do hope its sucking air in and pushing it out the rear fan.

Well, put your hand in front of the fan. If it's blowing air at your hand, then that's bad.
