i recently turned my pc on only for it to just power down mid-boot, id turn on my pc again, just for it to power down, this happened at random stages each time, some right away some afew seconds later.

so i took all out of the back of my pc with the exception of Monitor + power cable and my pc booted fine. now wot puzzles me is, why all of a sudden is it ok? was it a one off? iv so far only plugged my Ethernet Cable (Internet) +2 USB ports (mouse+keyboard)

anyone any idea if this is a problem with my pc wanting too much power and my PSU not being able to deliver? i havent tried any more USB's as of yet.

It's not a power issue. You can't draw more than, like, 5W from USB port.

Were you overclocking? (if so how much)

Name everything you had plugged in.

Is that a 8600GT SLI?

Try plugging one component in at the back at a time to see if you can isolate the problem

I dont think it will be your power supply, as if your PSU maxes out it will just power down some components

but off topic but just noticed your location, i live in wigan so its only a short trip on wigan road to your place

I don't think USB will put that much stress on the power, according to Wikipedia it's 5V and up to half a amp, so 2.5 watts won't shut down your computer.

aye its 8600gt SLI, im think iv found my problem, i got a loose wire somewhere as, when i lay my pc horizontally it works fine, vertically it powers down, so i just gotta root out the loose wire.

I had that problem and it was, because the CPU 6 pin power connector being faulty, so no CPU no boot, just the Mother Board booted strangely because I thought it wouldn't boot without a CPU...

6 pin CPU connector? :shock:

I thought the CPU connector was either a four pin or eight pin connector....
