    Need overclocking help please.

Ok, well lets start off. All the basics are disable(C1E, speedstep, spread spectrum) PCIe locked to 100...

So, i can push my e8400 to 3.3Ghz with stock voltages, that was fine. Was stable.

I increase the FSB to 400, giving me 800Mhz RAM as it should be and 3.6Ghz overclock. I try it with 1.3v. Cannot run orthos test or prime95 for more than 10 seconds without encountering errors. So i up the voltage one notch, again though cannot run Orthos or Prime95 for more than 10 seconds.

I up the voltage to somethign like 1.3375, still fine temperatures(in the 30c's idle and less than 50c load) But still no stress testing more than 15 seconds. So i change the northbridge voltage to 1.40v. STILL cannot run stress tests more than 15 seconds...im really frustrated and annoyed at the moment...and i have the latest above settings that i am typing on now and it seems fine..it can run 3dmark06 just not friggin Orthos or prime95...

So problems that it might be:
1.RAM might be ghay and wont let me overclock
2.Motherboard might be a bastard and be a crap overclocker
3.CPU might be a bad apple and its just the worst overclocker in teh history of overclocking
4.Might be a software problem as i can run 3dmark06 fine but no stress tests(btw temps whilst doing 3dmark06 didnt go above 50c)(havent tred games yet though)

    Other problems:
Evil spongebob suggested changing the multiplier to 8.0 instead of 9.0 to see if its the RAM, unfortunately my BIOS wont let me see that so it cant be changed.

E4300 was a poor overclocker as well on this board so this leads me more to believe that its not a very good OC'ing board.

Please please please help me as OCN seems to not care about any of my threads as about 2 people always ever post something then it just goes dead.

What's your RAM speed when overclocked? Did you change FSB:RAM ratio?

I have an Asus a8n32-sli deluxe and I seem to have the same problem, can't get the FSB above 250...

Did you lower both hypertransport multi, CPU multi and RAM ratio to hit the true mobo limit? Mine can hit 250MHz, but the damn bios is limiting VID to stock.

that could be it...tho he said his ram was running at 800mhz...but if hes got it on auto it will overclock the ram up to 950mhz or something like that

and you motherboard should be able to change the cpu multiplier...its basically the same mobo as mine except from the asus line...

when its overclocked it says RAM speed is 800Mhz...1:1 with my 400 FSB...

try dropping the multiplier. You might have a FSB hole at your current speed.

What does a FSB hole mean? Btw ive been runnig at 3.6ghz since yeesterday and its fine..I can play COD4, watch vids....But Orthos or Prime95 wont go...

It's where you can't get stable at a certain FSB. I don't know what causes it though.

Update: Ok so i was advised to drop multi to 8.0 and and at 400x8 it was fine running at 3.2ghz...but i couldnt find the voltages for RAM, so i didnt want to push it to 900Mhz. So back down to 400x9.0 but this time the CPU voltage at 1.35v, one notch underneath its safe operating voltage 1.3625v. 1 minute and 22 seconds in Orthos until errors....And it was at 51c....WTF! seriously!! It shouldnt be this god dam hard!!! ive seen people on 3.6Ghz on stock friggin voltages!!!!!

Memory voltage is there somewhere, you must find it.

On my BIOS, i have to change an option which then enables me to see memory voltages.

                      I have a look now.
