    Best free anti virus?

I've heard AVG, Avast, and NOD32 are all good. I'm using McAfee right now since I got it free with my ISP.

Avast. Used it for years on every computer.

It has real 64bit support as well (not just emulated 32bit)

Its a pretty close race between avast and AVG. I use them both and they both seem to be alright.

AVG gets my vote for best free anti-virus, but NOD32 is still the best! :)

I've found that NOD 32 is better on system resources than any other Anti-virus. It also filters spyware.

In my experience, AVG is crap.

If you really need Free, go for Avast.

I can't see the reason to pay for a anti virus and firewall unless you're a business (in which case all security should be hardware based) or doing some dodgy stuff on the nets.

Avast and Comodo has kept me safe, well, forever.

AVG seems to have holes it. It also doesn't seem very easy on system resources compared to any other anti-virus.

Safe browsing habits help, but that alone won't keep you protected. Any antivirus is better than none at all, but some are better than others.

It's inevitable that you'll make mistakes; for example I received and opened a phishing email purporting to be from Edexcel (a major UK exam board) shortly after having signed up to their online results service; thankfully I was in Ubuntu at the time, so I was OK, but it goes to show that one day you might be tricked.
