Question I couldn't come up with a thread name for

Now, I have an old HD that I'd like to use for storage and backups (it's 40 GB but I don't need much space)... I don't know if my motherboard supports another HD and I can't check since I'm on my old computer (Intel Celeron ftw).

The thing is that this HD has XP installed, so would there be any problems considering I have Vista installed on my main HD? That was the first question :p

My second question is: How to erase absolutely everything on that harddrive then? I'm not interested in running dual boot or similar. I just want a HD for storage.

Hope you guys can help me :) (with my silly noob questions)

If we are talking standard IDE, then you should be able to have to have two disks on each channel, e.g. Master / Slave.
I think the usual setup is using one channel for HDs and the other for optical drives, assuming that your MB has two IDE connectors.

I very recently added an old 40GB IDE disk with XP installed as a slave drive to my (XP) system, and there was no problems at all. As long as you are not booting from that drive, it is just data.

And lastly, a simple format should wipe everything on the drive. It might complain a bit because it is formatted as a system drive, but I don't remember any difficulties when I did it. Note that this just gives you a clean drive, the CIA might still be able to recover your data if that is a concern
