Yeah I know what you mean. My 9600GT is tiny compared to the new ones, but I don't care very much because I only play a few games (all at max settings) and I have no interest in upcoming titles.

But it's just interesting to see the competition between ATI and nvidia. Improvement in tech is always a good thing :)

Yeah 2GB is utter overkill now, i think the most people should go with is one gig, and the least is 512 as 256s are becoming old right now.

I dont think 2GB of GFX ram will be utilized till the far future, but who knows, the tech world changes by the day.

Actually, when cards are "leaked" the specs are often messed up. They usually state "maximum potential memory". So, this would probably be the amount of GDDR included on the Quaddro model, not standard desktop ones.

^ Pretty much true, Nvidia cards can be rated at "crater in your wallet" prices. Whilst ATi can be the lightly priced gfx but performance that can still match up to its competitor.

This is most likely a hoax GDDR5 and 512 bit dont make sense fast memory reduces the need for a wide bus and having both will just be wasted like playing with 4GB of memory on something like battlefield 1942,

The chip is already to big and expensive (1.4bn transistors) without adding more shaders the board partners are already hardly making a profit as the core of the GTX280 costs $100 on itself plus probably another $100-$150 for the board and memory then add on the cost of the box and accessories theres not much of an operating profit at all

Well i know Nvidia's next move is to shrink the GTX280 to 55nm and up the clocks within 2 months as it was in there july press release that still wont come close to matching the 4870x2, but nvidia dont like to lose they will come up with something good, but it will have to cost not much more than the GTX280 chip if they want a winner
