    Nehalem will be launched at $284

    Intel Bloomfield CPU pricing reveals pleasant surprise

    In order to speed up adoption of quad-core CPUs, Intel is planning to offer its upcoming 3.2GHz Extreme series Bloomfield processor at US$999 in thousand-unit tray quantities, US$500 cheaper compared to the current top-end Core 2 Extreme QX9770 which sells at US$1,499, according to sources at motherboard makers.


    3.2GHz Nehalem will be launched at $999, 2.93GHz one at $562 and 2.66GHz one at $284. All in 1000-unit tray price. They REALLY want to kill AMD. There's no reason QX9750 and QX9650 will be priced that high any more in the end of the year. BTW, Q8200 is coming out and it will trample any Phenom x3 x4.

    Now we'll wait to see how much will X58 with nForce 200 cost. There may be a chance a rig with Nehalem and GTX280 SLI can be built for under $1500.

      Wasn't there some conflict about Nehalem chipsets not being compatible with SLI?

      And these all need new mobos because they're changing sockets right?

          It is sure that not all X58 boards will support SLI, but some will. Remember Intel Skulltrail? Heck, NVIDIA even did it on an HP gaming computer that is based on AMD chipset. The ones that will support SLI will have an NVIDIA chip on it.

          NVIDIA is under some pressure from both AMD and Intel. So they bowed down to Intel, for the moment, in order to gain some advantage at the time when Nehalem is launched.

          Nvidia won't have it's own SLI chipset when Nehalem launches, but there will be some X58 boards that support SLI.


          I doubt that Intel has some inside information about how 45nm AMD chips would perform. Otherwise they can crush both AMD and NVIDIA in 2009.
