Xfire Video Compression

Wow. I didn't ever think I'd be making my own thread here. :hmm:

Anyways, after reading about the video recording capabilities of Xfire, I decided to try it out because I hate the Fraps watermark and I'm not paying $35 to get rid of it. So I went into singleplayer and took a couple of vids. The vids were shot at half resolution so it wouldn't lag too much. (640x512, 5:4) And I had some problems.

First, the sound didn't work. No sound. It's checked in the options window and my sound card is selected. (Chaintech AV-710. VIA Envy24 based)

Second, the uncompressed files are huge! Ok, now to compress them. I open up Super and use the h.264 codec with no sucess. I got an error. I played with the aspect ratio. Still an error. I then tried the video in Mpeg Streamclip and Windows media encoder. Both programs would not encode the video.

Help with either of these issues would be great.

Edit: I used VirtualDub and was able to encode the video with Xvid. I haven't tried any other codecs yet. But I'd really like to use h.264. Quality is 10x better.

Edit 2: I also tried using Xfire's own Mpeg 4 encoder. It also was able to encode the video. (obviously though.) However, that encoder is not customizable at all.

I got it working in VirtualDub. I was more concerned with why it wouldn't work in SUPER, Mpeg Streamclip and Windows Media Encoder. It seems odd that three programs won't encode the video.... :hmm:
