New Mouse?

So I've got about $50 (maybe $85) extra bucks left over from my last gig that need spending.

I'm thinking I should get a new (gaming) mouse as my current one is just your standard Microsoft mouse.

I'm pretty certain logitech is the best, but which one? The MX looks like it has more features, but the G5 seems to be better geared towards gaming.

Thoughts and advice?


edit: I'm also considering saving some more money and buying a widescreen monitor.... hmmmm

I love the G5 and MX518. Either will do you good. Although G5 is laser as opposed to the optical of the MX518. But quite frankly I've laid down enough ownage on an old wireless M$ piece of crap before i got my G7. So go for comfort as your first priority. I can confirm that both of these mice are great on the comfort level.

I got a logitech g5 laser mouse for $30. It was on sale from $90 (ripoff) and i can surely say it makes a difference in games. I will not go back to optical.

I haven't used both, (only the MX-518) But I'd pick the G5 if I were getting a new mouse. Why? The G5 was developed after the MX-518, so Logitech took the good ideas of the MX and made a new (and likely better) mouse.

I use a Razer Lachesis it has a rubber surface looks neat, and has 4000 DPI.

Don't go wireless if you want a gaming mouse, I've been using a wireless mouse for 4 years and it was nothing but problems, you need to change the batteries often. The response times are always worse then most weird mouses. They also have a tendency to fall off your desk and break...

Most people cant handle 4000 dpi I make fun of my friends when they move the mouse and it goes a cross the screen, I got used to it.

I love the feel of my mx518, plus it has lots of buttons. pair it with a fUNC mousepad ftw!

I have the Logitech G9 and it's the best mouse i have ever used.. I highly recomend it if ur into precision gaming.

That's weird. The Lachesis is 4000DPI and the G5 is 2000DPI although the G5 has a speed of 45" per second and the Lachesis has a speed of 60" per second (fastest speed).

I use a razer diamondback and I like it. It feels comfortable and is very nimble/lightweight.

MX518, I wouldnt spend too much on a mouse unless you really dont have anything else to buy.

Don't listen to all the hype, nor should you look at the "stats" for each mouse. It's all a big marketing ploy. Best thing to do would be to go to a shop and see if you could actually feel each mouse in your hand, then make your decision from that. They all perform similarly when in use (the differences are too little to notice), so it all boils down to comfort.

I will also add that the G5 and Stinger have weights for your mouse, and the Lachesis has the rubber surface and ambidextrous design. I truly believe 2000 DPi is enough for most people, so it all bils down to what you like and what looks nice.

The G5 looks like an improved MX518, hell i am thinking of getting it as well.
