Logitech is amazing maybe, since it's a single company you're referring to

Still, my MX518 has been steady over the past 2 (or so) years, so unless it actually breaks (i.e. falls apart) I won't be replacing it. I'm pretty sure it's molded itself to my grip now

That may be also correct however if you refer to Logitech as the people who run/work for it which is perfectly acceptable then 'are' is still correct.

As for making them rethink their policy... maybe, maybe not. At the end of the day as you have proved not everyone will abuse it. I suppose it is quite unfair on them if there is nothing wrong with the mouse and i probbly wouldnt have even thought about it if my mouse was completely fine... either way im not thinking of the company overall, i rarely do all i want is a nice new mouse. Call me selfish if you like but im not particualy well blessed with funds at the moment so i take any opportunity i can.

        Meh. :|:

All people want the world for free. He can get a free mouse by legally using/abusing Logitech's customer support system. Logitech thinks it will sell more mice if they give free replacements. Both parties want the same thing. Obviously Logitech knows that not all replacement mice will actually be replacements. But 98% of customers won't think to solder another cable. Logitech thinks the risk is worth it.

In the end everyone's happy. He gets a free mouse and Logitech made a customer happy. The next mouse he buys will likely be a Logitech.
