HDTV flat screens and computers

so as i recall it here..back in the day ...many things did not work properly with hdtv and well tv in general hook ups to pcs..i had ati all in wonder 9800 500$ retail for it whne it came out and i could not read the print on my 40 in sont tv with the hook up..so..
now that years have changed and that is clearly not the best card anymore..

i now own 9600gt and im gunan buy either 40 or 36 in flat screen lcd TV...

am i still going to have the problem with the print not being able to be read?
or is all that stuff now fixe and tv works great with it ? what connections do i need for the 9600gt? just the svido cable or what?
feedback would be great thanks ..
i found 36in for 700$ ..i dont know if thats good?

Make sure you get a 1920x1080 HDTV anything smaller will look weird on such a large monitor, you will need to connect your videocards output through HDMI or DVI. I have no problems with being able to view text on an 60 inch HDTV then update your settings for the HDTV from the NVIDIA control panel.

You probably won't be able to read anything at all unless it's 720p and you're 10 feet away. If you can't read a novel's page further than arm's length at all, then you still won't recognize much.

The 9600GT should have a DVI slot, so you're set there. If the screen you get only has HDMI, then there's cheap (as in more than 20 dollars less than in-store) cables on Monoprice.

ok thats good news because i was just reading up on diffrence in 1080p and 1080i...im trying to find 1080p for a good price..it seems difficult..

Who buys 720p? It's not even considered HDTV when its 720p lol.

um.... yes it is.

480i is standard definition, anything above is HD. 720p and 1080i are just about equivalent, also.

I hear alot, under 35" You need nothing more than 720p Above 35" you should be looking at 1080P?

from what i read 720p is not even close to what 1080p can do ..BUT..this is the big toast spreader here..
with a 42 inch flat screen there is a huge diffrence between 720p and 1080..
now..with a 26in theres a minute diffrence in 72p and 1080...

facts are this thoe..

720p is better then regular tv..in fact it is HD.. but the problem is this..if you buy a hd dvd or download a ripped hddvd or whatever...most of them are at 1080p which causes a problem..720p is not 1080p now matter how ya slice it and on any normal basis 1080p will look better then 720p..now im off to find my 1080p flat screen boys..

Enjoy your small, unreadable text I guess. I've got a 47 inch sitting in my living room, and I can't do anything with the computer hooked up to it unless I'm using VNC.

I'm buying a 37...

from what i read it all works perfectly fine..at most lets say you're right i end up with a flat screen for a watching movies only really..


but this is the reason i created this thread, so i can stop my self if it really dosent work right..

also for people to post there experiences, and if the old times like i seen in the beginning are still happening with the text not being readable etc etc..btw ..

what graphics card do you got ?
have you looked in the control panel settings to see?
have you changed the hertz down to match what the tv can do?
ie a lot of text issues have to do with the actual tv hertz ...
they cannot handle 70 hertz etc etc a lot of them run off of 40 or lower from what i read..

I played COD4 and Crysis on my 47" HDTV and it looked sweet. i have a ATi RX1900 512mb in my system and it runs pretty well, you just need to figure out the optimal resolution.

HDTV starts at 1280x720 then 1920x1080 (720i/p 1920i/p) 16:9 aspect ratio for HDTVs (LCDs, DLPs, Projectors), anything else is just considered a different screen resolution. You will want to make sure you have progressive scan which is the P, as interlaced I just doesn't look right and is not for LCD monitors anyway.

Most people that watch movies, etc. on their computers will have computer LCD Monitors which have an aspect ratio of 16:10. Either way it should look really good no matter what resolution or size your monitor is when watching an HD movie in 720p/1080p, just make sure there is enough room between you and the monitor or tv.

If you buy a 60 inch 1080p HDTV you will need to be pretty far back to keep yourself from going blind or getting brain damage. You will want to use your digital connectors DVI/HDMI not the analog (VGA, Component, S-Video, RGB, Composite) or you may get weird colors from your PC, ghosting and other weird things.

If you are getting a computer LCD monitor make sure it has a nice 2ms refresh rate if you plan on watching action movies and playing videogames.

I've played FSX on our 57" 1080p TV... IT'S A PAIN IN THE ***! You need to buy some bluetooth keyboard / mouse / joysticks to fully enjoy it. Or some very long USB cables.

I had to put in a custom resolution because of a horrid bit of overscan. (1365x720?)
Nope, ran fine at 60hz
