    Ipod Touch

Iv just gone and bought the 16GB version as my old ipod is nearly an antique.

But i have heard alot of people "jailbreaking" their touches so they can add extra themes and games to it.

Just wondered if this could damage it in any way or whether a factory settings restore could take it back to normal?

If people could share their expreiences that would be great.

I have friends that have done this and one is using it as an Iphone, but yes you can just restore the firmware to the factory settings if something were to go wrong.

V2 of the iPod Touch software will be out on the 10th (so people say), worth waiting IMO just incase something goes wrong, very small chance - I have modded my old iPod 4th gen 60GB so it has the Touch theme and nothing went wrong there, just a plus to a small maybe negative. :)

Nothing will go wrong if you remember to restore the iPod through iTunes before upgrading.

You need to pay for the new v2 software and there isn't really much in it for Touch owners other than custom apps, which you can get anyway if you've already jailbroken the device.

I've never jailbroken my ipod, although I thought about it before I returned my 5th for the 5.5 (or is it 6th)

Never seemed that necessary, the music is where its at, not the apps, imo. :p

wait, how could you possibly turn an ipod touch into an iphone? I dont see that possible in any way.

I believe you can get a voip app? you'd still have to get a mic and headphones though.

No it won't damage the iPod Touch in any way. I recently got an iPod Touch and I Jailbroke it about a week ago. Just remember to reformat it to factory settings before you do the Jailbreak.

Just a tip, that's very necessary: I don't know why, but for some reason the 16GB iPod Touch's have freezing problems with Jailbreaking, or at least mine did. To avoid it open Safari and just type random stuff for like 3 second and then close Safari right before you open the "Installer" application that was added onto your iPod Touch.

I would recommend using the program called "ZiPhone." It's very simple to use and worked great with my iPod Touh. After you Jailbreak it, search "All iPod Touch Sources" on Google so you can get all the sources on it. They add more games and applications to the download list.

And yes, if you encounter a problem or want to get it back to factory settings you can just use the reformat option in iTunes. You have to download it through iTunes first.

I have jailbroken 2 ipod touches successfully, and I am happy with it. You just can´t do anything wrong... You can get a BSD error, at which point it may look like your ipod is stuffed, but a press of two buttons fixes it... Then repeat and it should work.

I don´t know how others do it, but I used a program followed by a video and it worked perfectly first time on my 8GB, and took maybe 2 tries on a friends 16GB. If it goes slow or freezes, just restore and try again, get the BSD error? Restore and try again.:)

It should be a blue icon the iPod home screen. If it's not there, try reformatting and jailbreaking it again.
