Hi I receaved a free vista version from school but now my asnwer is:

Does it actually improve my gaming graphics...?
or does it only eat ram?

My setup
p5... ASUS mobo
2 X ASUS EN8600GT 512 mb each
1 gig ram
Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.40GHZ 2MB Cache i think

i'm now using xp professional if i switch to Vista will it improve my preformance or just slow it down?

BTW are there problems with cod4 on Vista?

My advice would be not to bother, especially if you only have 1gb of RAM.

There were problems with Vista and SLI if I recall correctly, but SLI is **** anyway so problems with a spanking new OS could have been predicted.

The question of it improving your graphics... short answer, no. The only thing that improves your graphics is getting better hardware (this line should be stickied and made bright orange so that nobody misses it).

dude i would recommend no more less than 2gb of ram and i get half the fps from vista as i do from xp with same gcard @ 1gb but for cod 4 on vista i get between 125 fps and way up with full settings .

i have got 4 gb ram on my pc but have built a few pc's using 2gb of ram on vista it can usually page)))) 490mb to 870mb of ram for idle and address spaces /


your chip should be 4 mb cache (duo ) 2x2

you can get 2gb ddr2 on 1 stick for around £30 p5 should have 4 slots for ram ?

Running vista on 1 gig a ram, would be atrocious....

Vista isn't good for gaming really. Depends what you use your PC for, if it's mainly gaming stick with XP. If your doing lots of compiling and mutli-processing, and so forth Vista is a whole lot better.
Even with 2Gb of RAM Vista can be a bit hungry at times.

Vista is the way forward though, in a year or so you won't find many games compatible with XP.

I just installed Vista (after reinstalling XP) on my other PC... it only has 2gb RAM (compared to this PC which uses 4gb RAM) but it has a better CPU (3.2ghz dual compared to 2.2ghz dual) and better graphics card (X1950 Pro compared to 8600 Ultra) - It's running fine, if not faster in some places...
