    Damn Configs

Right, its been bugging me for ages and I can't sort it out, so i'm going to finally pester you all about it for any advice, as i'm fresh out of ideas.

Heres the deal, i've been playing with loads of settings in my config etc, its not set to read only or the like, yet 90% of the time it resets itself. Fortunately Most of the settings are fine, but my name keeps resetting itself to MedicsBitch (I changed it to that so that every time I was bugged for my config they'd be called MedicsBitch, which seems to have backfired...a bit?) Anyway yeah, sometimes it stays at the modified settings i've done, but sooner or later (one or two CoD4 restarts later) it resets itself again.

I really cba redoing my config, its a pain in the butt, but i'm close to redoing it, anyone got any suggestions before I make a new one again?

Delete configs in mod folders (or just the mod folders themselves) before you start dicking around with your main config, and make sure it is your main config you're fiddling with otherwise it'll never work.

Just open up your config_mp.cfg found in CoD4/Players/Profiles/YOURNAME/ with Wordpad (Notepad++, Programmers Notepad etc.) and change the line:

          seta name "MedicsBitch"

...to what ever other name you want.

Also there is only one "config_mp.cfg" file, Mod folders don't have config files like CoD2, if you want to store config files that you can exec ingame they go into your CoD4/main folder then bind a key to exec the file.

just set it read only tbh

or once you set up the cfg the way you want it. save it somewhere else where cod4 won't touch it.

Done everything except Pennys call because i'm using that as a last resort, including adding lines of commands into my config AGAIN and saving them, such as seta name etc, as well as a few binds, yet when I go into game again they're not there. ^_- Fail.

I'ma scrap it, fish out the lines of text that were the hardest for me to find to mod (my config took about a week to make :[) and then make a new un.

you know you wanted a fix for ur config kept overwriting/reverting - did u try edit the file, restart comp, then load the game up... should stick like that :S dunno why... weird vista settings...

                  Medic

                  I sorted it thanks
                  I copied all the data
then deleted all the configs in all my folders
then pasted it after i loadded cod4 in each folder name
then replaced the data with my old stuff
