I'm looking to buy a laptop for use in my truck while on the road. I would like to be able to play cod4 off of a wifi connection or wireless connection. I'm not very computer savey. Would like to know if there is a laptop out there that can fullfill my needs as a gamer. My price range is limited to like $3000. Is it possible? Any comments would be greatly appriciated.

Dell XPS laptops = win.
Rock Direct laptops are good too, but I don't think they're sold in the US. Alienwares are overpriced to the balls, laptops even more so. They're essentially the XPS laptops with a trashy (imo) looking shell. Remember, Dell owns Alienware now...Comment

This is the system I'm currently looking at. It's a Dell XPS M1730. Tell me what ya think. Will this work for me. Like I said I'm a truck driver so I'm not always in areas of wifi hotspots. Is there something else I would need to know to be able to play online. Like will I be able to get a good enough signal from a wireless network card. Also I'm a little stumped on whether I should go with XP or Vista. I've heard Vista sucks for gaming, is that true?

Umm wireless internet is not good for gaming, ping fluctuates alot, especially since you'll be on the move too... you'll probably be looking at 200-400 ping, though I could be wrong...Comment

I'd pay money to see that. It would be next to impossible though unless you managed to get a really good portable modem, and even if you did, you'd be paying like $40 a day just to play a few hours of BFE

I dont think the ping on a whole is a problem just the odd ping spike, a bf2 clan mate plays on Wi-Fi some of the time, and although he has decent ping nearly all the time, he gets some odd lag that isnt his ping, so uses cable when possible.
On the OS front XP is better for gaming, currently. SP3 has just come out, and it'll no doubt be the last major update, for XP.
Vista is fine for gaming aswell, you just need the extra RAM, Vista is alot better since SP1 came out, sloved alot of problems.Comment
