monitor problem

well i have found an unused flat screen monitor of good quality in my house ( my dads old one) i tried to connect it and it switches on but nothing appears on the screen. is there any quick ways of checking if it actually works or if its broken?

Switch it on, and if that doesn't work (i.e. you don't see a "No Signal" indicator or anything else) then it's probably screwed. Or failing this, you could ask your dad why he isn't using it anymore...

Open the monitor's setup menu (with the monitor buttons, if any). If that works and it's isn't in all wonky colors, then you have yourself a new monitor!

it switches on (the power light comes on) but the screen is black and nothing happens. he doesnt use it anymore because he bought a new one.

check then change cables, make sure your video card supports the monitor and were your contecting it. you can replace the chip if its gone bad for $50 dollars. b ut you need to know what your doing.
