upgrade?

bascailly i just wanna upgrade my pc alil,

atm i got :

Asus M2N4 Sli - Motherboard
1 gig Ram - some cheap ass brand... think its called smart price lawl :>
GeForce 8600 GT - GCard
AMD Athlon 5000+ Duel Core Black Edition - Processor


all i wanna know is, would it be worth upgrading my ram to 2gig and also getting another 8600gt to run sli?

if so, anyone know where i can get some cheap 2Gig ram that will fit with the motherboard, i know where to get a cheap 8600gt.

suggestions welcome =) (would like to keep processor & motherboard for the time being)

Sli isn't worth the trouble mate,I recommend getting a new card altogether,8800gt maybe(cheap enough these days) and a Decent 2gig of Ram.

Id say get another generic 1gb of ram, same speed as the other stuff because you can only go as fast as the slowest. I ran my pc2 6400 at 1/2 of the speed for a few weeks without noticing an effect in cod4.

If you want/need a new graphics card now go for it but there nothing really special out now.

I would get new RAM ASAP as the prices (last I checked) are amazingly low for ddr2 800 (2Gig Corsair XMS2 for $19.99USD after mail in and instant off). Go with the same brand of RAM to, just to be safe.

Your card is fine for now, unless you have money to spend I'd save it for when you actually need a new card.

i would always go Ram first cheaper option and you might be supprised to see that it will boost your gcard and sytem because you wont be using so much virtual memory.

back in the old days of bf2 i upgraded ram as i only had 1gb and i got another 1 gb stick . huge difference mate .


I think you should always do builds or upgrades component by component becuase somtimes a pc will seem kakapooh and it is all because of 1 component and not all of them.

would they run okay the rest of my system tho? and ye i had same path, i played BF2 with 512 mb ram and it was just pure crap, i had to have lowest settings, then i got 1gig and it played great on normal

It should work, when you get ram it often wont set it self up properly so youll have to do it in the bios yourself. One of these should be good, unless you going to run it at 1000mhz (like the pc2 8500 ram)

Those 2 are 2x1gb sticks with heatsinks, I have 4gb of the bottom since I use Vista 64, but the g skills one is supposed to be a bit better for overclocking.

Im not sure how much improvement you will get over the 8800GT below vs the 9800GTX
