I plan to buy these for $25US at Newegg. I'm concentrating on durability, as I drop everything I own (even stuff on my head) frequently. My 2nd pair of plastic Logitechs is now held together with electric tape.

Low end Sennhesiers are sometimes hit/miss on build and sonic quality though I would suspect they are built better than Logitecs. I would look for some detailed reviews, but on the other hand they are only $25.

I've decided on Audio Technica A700s, as per the Head-Fi forum's buyer's guide. Plus, I was pressured by this little complication.

generally if you are going to buy headphones for that amount of money then you cant expect a lot however the HD202s do seem to be the cream of the crop for that price range.

They are a totally different breed alltogether but vastly popular, the beyerdynamic DT100 (think there may be a new version of the same thing out now) about £40-50 in the UK and completely modular so if u break them u can stick a new component in :) Fantastic sound quality in comparison to normal HIFI headphones but u do look like a right plonka wearin them!

I have a pair of Senn HD580(aka HD600); I would wager they are about the same or larger than the the beyers. Brilliant phones though.. need to get/build and amp for them however.

Pretty cheap actually... Many cans can fetch well over $300 and the amps can go even higher.

yeaaa 150 is on the cheap side :P
first decent set of phones were $70US i think? grado sr-60's...they were alright i guess. nothing compared to the dt770's.

don't get me wrong, grado's are awesome. any rock sounds good with em. just don't expect awesomeness with 70 bucks.

(google grado gs1000. you'll get great sound with that. along with an empty pocket for a LONG time.)

If you don't care about hearing ambient sounds open generally better. From a technical standpoint closed headphones have to deal with standing waves (bad for sound and very fatiguing). Open headphones feel like the music is more in the room than on your head; which is an attribute I find to be appealing.
