New RAM

Okay so the other day i decided to up my ram from one gigs too two gigs. Instead of buying 1 gig of a slower speed i decided to buy 2 gigs of faster ram and just take the 1 gig out. So i did it, made sure they were seated properly, etc. But now everything is slower than before.

Does anybody know why this is or how to fix it? Is it just a matter of letting the RAM get worn in a little? the only reason i ask is because i didn't have this problem the last time i did an upgrade on a computer.

i have 4GB of DDR2-800, check the bios it now controls the speed of the memory, if its dual channel 800 for example it needs to be set at 400Mhz to work at the correct speed mine was set to 233Mhz as default, also make sure both sticks are the same speed, if a slower stick is left in the faster one will only work to the speed of the slower one.

Yeah i have dual channel 800 and the speed is set for 400 MHz.

Still going with the terrible advice eh vonbarter...

DDR3, at current prices, is a complete waste of money and for the performance "boost" it brings you could buy 8gb of DDR2 RAM and have the same if not a greater performance in programs that use RAM of that quantity and speeds, not to mention have the bragging factor of having 8gb of RAM :O
