Display driver nvlddmkm has recovered from an error

Well, when I play CoD4 sometimes it crashes to say its a DirectX problem, sometimes it just freezes for a few seconds and then after I quit CoD4 it would say that the display driver "nvlddmkm" recovered from an error...

I've tried updating graphics drivers to beta ones, I've tried Microsoft Hotfixes... it just won't go away...

Apparently it could be because of either my PSU/Mobo or that I need to overclock my graphics driver to run with higher voltages? :?

Anyone had this before?

I've also got a problem with my other computer that uses a Radeon, it now restarts/turns the computer off when I'm running CoD4 - before it would just do a system beep every time it encountered some error :?

I have the same exact problem except whenever I'm playing WoW for extended periods, I get a BSoD and it says it from the exact driver.

Ya I'm running Vista with GeForce 8600 GT - other PC is still on XP

Apparently you only get BSoD's if your graphics driver is running prior to the 162.xx drivers? So you'd need to update your graphics driver...

not sure meself on this 1 but ive had a little look for ya on the net and this seems to be a solution.

Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

Your computer should now work properly.

Obviously i havnt got ure machine so ure gonna have to test it ureself m8.
if it dont fix it can u post the specs of the pc and the version and buil;d of ure operating system. thanks

Where would the nVidia directory be?

Edit: found it! I searched C:\nVidia but couldn't find it then realised I had two folders soo searched C:\nvidia(312) and found it

Ok so what I did:
Went to C:\Windows\system32\drivers
Renamed nvlddmkm.sys to nvlddmkm.sys.old
Went to C:\nVidia(312) (Note you may need to go to: C:\nVidia
Copied nvlddmkm.sy_ to C:\Windows\system32\drivers
Opened Command Prompt, typed: cd C:\Windows\system32\drivers
Then typed: EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys

This then expanded the file to 107% and it was saved in system32\drivers folder, so I just deleted nvlddmkm.sy_ and moved nvlddmkm.sys.old to another location e.g. to the desktop.

I'll restart and test CoD4 later (but thought I'd post that step-by-step guide for anyone else who might have trouble :P)

Make sure you uninstall your drivers before you install new ones.

Also try using NTune. Should of came with your card. Open up Nvidia control panel. Under performance click tune system. I only did the coarse tuning and it made everything more stable. Dunno if that will help with that error, but doesnt hurt to try.

uninstalling the drivers doesnt seem to change the nvlddmkm as far as i read, you should just use the latest driver and then try the fix on it

had his prob first time i intalled cod4 on vista, hotfixes didnt work niether did driver uninstall or update but i made my cod4 run in (xp mode) compatability

and dont use any over clocker ie expert or what ever you use cos i think they conflict with nv dll's but i just installed expert tool 6.1 and that seems fine (otherwise try without clock tool)

also check that dx is final retail / as in some sdk dx n vidia drivers cause conflict /


also stupid but comon did you install US/ nv drivers or international nv drivers /

Just reinstall the drivers using the tried and true method: Uninstall, reboot, install.

Bumping, since I got it today, will reinstall drivers completly when I get the chance... was busy last time so rushed the installs...
