Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
Stop running stuff ALL on high with games that just came out. Use DirectX 9 over DX10 if you don't care about the extra shiny. Turn off anti-aliasing and use a higher resolution instead. Also, you made a mistake if you purchased the 256MB cards. :P
That's pretty much it. Unless you want to overclock, too bad! Spend moar money!
Yeah i got a 8800GT (256mb) looking to probably upgrade early march time. Its not too bad with everything on high on cod4 still get a decent 125 in places. lowest it goes down to is like 80 in smoke or high res areas. Dunno what card to repalce it with though. Maybe an 8800Gt again just a higher MB
TUNE XP GUIDE !
ok , heres a little tool and a guide to go with it about a great little tool called tune xp 1.5.
I have used this on a few computers now anbd its the nuts.
it will make your boot up times faster,
your ram more effective and also make the niggly little things your pc does to slow you performance down go away.
Now bear in mind , this is not my tool, full respect goes to Driverheaven for this little gem.
also i dont accept responsibility for any blue screens of death, your motherboard frying, the cat getting stuck up a tree or your gerbil getting electrocuted by your usb ports.
first , obviously install the program.
you can download from here
http://dw.com.com/redir?pid=10290928&merid=6256748&mfgid=6256748<ype =dl_dlnow&lop=btn&edId=3&siteId=4&oId=3120-2086_4-10290928&ontId=2086_4&destUrl=http://www.download.com%2F3001-2086_4-10290928.html
after install you should have a screen up that has some bars across the top like this.
first select the one with the heading "Memory and File System"
You need to make sure all of these are marked enable.
Accelerate DLL Unloading
Clear Page File On ShutDown
Disable Paging Executive
Faster Shutdown
File Allocation Size Tweak
Now you are going to start these tweaks
Optimise prefetch
Increase NTFS Performance
Your I/O page limit should be half to 3/4 your memory so select accordingly
Click the clear prefetch folder
Click defrag boot files
leave the disable zip files
click the ultra fast booting
Next section. The area marked hardware
Only one to bother with here
Speed Up Windows IRQ Handling
The rest can be skipped.
just so long as all of it is done and you have no windows left open restart computer and see your improvement
hope that helps
GENERAL SPEED UP
Well, Since i had so many requests with pc`s that are running a bit slow and sluggish, i`m gonna do this post for you.
i will try and explain best i can so bear with me.
firsty, find out how much memory you have in your computer,
we are going to allocate some virtual memory as well, virtual memory is an area of the hard drive that ure pc will use as real memory.
to allocate virtual memory go to ,
start menu->control panel->system->advanced->performance settings->advanced->virtual memory - change.
click custom size, and the hard drive you use.
you want to make your virtual memory size ure memory size times 1.5
(so 1gb (1024mb) times 1.5 is 1536)
so enter that in both boxes., click apply, ok etc
will probably ask for restart so do or sont do, advisable to do so further steps can get the right results.
after restart we are going to sort your registry out, a bad registry can cause all sorts of crap to happen so anyways, use this program.
unzip and run
does it all on its own really so nothing to worry about here
that will sort out a lot of registry probs
next is ure defrag of files
windows is a sucker at trying to do this as it takes so long to do it people quit and dont bother with doing it.
simply select drive and run.
heres the link for the tool
hopefully we are on our way to speeding computer up loads
now we going to stop some nasty stuff from auto running when u start ure computer and taking up vital power from ure system.
now i know this is going to sound hard to believe but this is actually from microsoft
it will list all of the files starting up in your system and give you a convienient little check box next to its entry so you can turn it off or on.
!!!!!!!!!!BE WARNED......TURNING WRONG ENTRIES OFF CAN MAKE URE COMPUTER NOT BOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Right now i scared u all, if u do happen to do this, which i have done, hold F8 just after hard drive detection screen and go into safe mode, reload autoruns program and tick all the boxes that you unticked.
restart and all is fine.
now anyways,. if after the scary point people are still reading this ., in the autoruns programs u want to be looking for are stuff that says toolbar, or search, or stuff like that.
if ure not experienced with this sort of stuff, theres a few options,
click file -> save as -> and save as save me doc or summut.
then send to me
1) xfire - thepcdoc
2) email the_p_c_doc@hotmail.com
3) msn messenger - not on this much but if i am send me , ure more than welcome
anyways, if ya not wantin to untick etc, ill look thro ure save file for u and tell u whats what.
well, if either u have now ticked a load of buttons, or you have sent me that nasty text file (which i`m only messing, it aint that nasty) you should be at the same place with a load of tick buttons removed
click the close button and restart.
so if you are now still reading i think you have now restarted, or if it didnt, u r using someone elses pc and im sorry.
try and pm me and ill try and help but all of this information is at own risk
anyways
pc is gettin so cleaned up
rite next is to clean the rest up
load this file/program
now this file is a marvel
after installation, u need to click
<memory and file system >
Accelerate DLL unloading
Clear page file on shut down
disable paging executive
faster shut down
file allocation size tweak
io lock page limit -> make 3/4 ure ram
(or RAM / 0.75)
do clear prefetch
do defrag boot files
do ultra fast booting
<hardware>
increase cpu priority
increase usb polling interval
speed up windows irq handling
thats about it for this tutorial
if you restart and all is better , post now please
if you restart and you cant post, then i aint gonna hear from you
all these tips are using free ware available from the web so please support them as they are proper diamonds for the stuff they create.
if u do have problems, then i will try and help, just understand that i work loads and i aint around much, so pm or xfire, or msn, or even email me
hope that helps ya all
and dont forget to visit the sites u get the stuff from
ok cheers pcdoc i will run down throught it later on and tell you if it helped me..Could lso start a new thread with that info and get it /stickeyed...might be usefull to others too
btw i got the 512mb version :) and i dont play new games
done most of this..not too worried about my registry and all for now..was wondering is there a programme that makes your graphics card run better or is that just somthing i have made up :P
......was wondering is there a programme that makes your graphics card run better or is that just somthing i have made up :P
Well I got the 8800gtx and in my Nvidia Control Panel, there is, or should I say if you are using XP there is, an option for overclocking the card. However as I now use Vista and no one has produced any drivers that enable this option, I no longer OC it.
Yeh those ones, almost certain, from memory, that u go into the tune system function, cos if u just click on custom clock frequencies, u will more than likely overdo it, just click the custom clock frequencies button and see if there's an auto option thats becomes available, I can't remember tbh.
i used to use riva tuner for overclocking my graphics card , but i will warn you, my poor old radeon 9000 decided it had enough of running at the speeds i was forcing it to , (was a nice funeral tho.)
