    Ping problem

Recently I've been having problems finding pub servers with a decent ping. Whenever I pub play, i usually choose a server based on lowest ping but lately the lowest I've been finding is in the low 100's.
The strange thing is when I click "join a server" then refresh the server list I sort it from lowest ping to highest. Lowest is usually in the 100's while the highest is over 1000 (yes one thousand). Sometimes when I join a server though, the actual ping I get is much lower than the ping shown on the server list.

    Any ideas ???

Someone might be stealing your bandwidth, or your ISP is POOP. Are you on a wired or wireless connection? If wired, what is your ISP?

It just shows up like that in the list and then is fine when actually playing in the server? Or sometimes its like that? And most times its always 100+ in list and playing?

If its the first, just pick the lowest ping thats in the 100's...lol

I have the exact same thing, but not quite as bad as that. If I even see a server with a ping of 900, when I join it, the ping is only 90. Not sure exactly what the problem is, so I just ignore the pings, as long as they're not too high and take the lowest one.

Pings are higher in cod4 in general. London servers used to give me 140 in cod2, in cod4 i get 180

Maybe the server list is just bugged? Just use xfire to find your servers :P

I was bugged by my ping in the last battle. In every other battle on the eu servers I constantly had a ping of ~84, but in this last battle ~110. Not a big chance, yeah, but it was noticable in the gameplay so it bugged me a lot. I even shut down all the other comps in my house and turned of xfire and ts, but nothing! And it couldn't have been an server issue cause we used to have almost exactly the same pings with mute, seeing as he lives in Finland too, but his ping remained the same...

Generally this could be just a glitch and you could be getting server pings instead of your connection to the server. I have been having unusually high pings on the server list aswell but when I look at the servers through xfire they seem normal. Just connect to one that seems like it has a low ping (even if its is 100+) or one that you know is local to you. Also, make sure you are not using a torrent program or anything in the background. Even when you are not downloading it can cause high pings.

The in game browser is messed up since 1.4 It's a bug and hopefully will be resolved in the next patch. I get it too, some people seem not too :/

Thats exactly what I've been seeing. I'm going to assume it's a glitch since obviously if you join that server your not going to see a 4000+ ping.
That would be like playing multiplayer games via carrier pigeon

                              Nail on the head.

The in game browser does a massive "update all" on the server list, it pings blocks of servers at once.

The issue actually effects older model routers from what I can find on Zee Google, i.e. models with less memory that can't handle the simultaneous ping requests. It basically acts like a Denial of Service Attack stopping you from receiving actual ping times.

The only solution I can find, is to use 3rd party server browsers, at the moment the X-Fire built in one does the trick, although doesn't detect game version which is effin annoying. Hope it gets sorted in the next patch.
