    Hyper threading question

I'm starting to put together my "wish list" for a new computer I'd like to build real soon.

    I'm looking at 2 processors:

    Intel core2 quad Q6600 2.4ghz
    Intel core2 quad Q6700 2.66ghz

Other than the obvious freq. difference, the Q6600 doesn't support hyperthreading but is about half the price of the Q6700

Is hyperthreading that big of a deal?? It will be mainly a gaming computer with some other basic stuff.

(note: none of this probably matters because by the time I actually buy anything the price of the QX9650 will probably be $250 and I'll just get that )

I've got the intel Q6600 and it is pretty good. The difference is hyperthreading makes it seem like there are more processors there. It is good for gaming and stuff, but for some apps you'll need to turn it off. You can't really notice the huge difference between HT and non HT. But I'd go for the Q6600 since you can OC it and save a little bit of money.

Hyperthreading is like splitting one CPU core into 2. As you have 4 cores, who gives a shat about that?
