help buying new notebook!

hey guys i have around $2200 USD for a new notebook, and im having a hard time looking for a good one ... will be used for university mostly, but will be also used for gaming of course, movies, well kind of a desktop ... any help will be appreciated

Can I talk you out of buying a gaming laptop? Waste of money imo.

If I had $2200 and were going to college, I'd build a $1000 gaming desktop and pick up one of those $500-600 mini laptops like the Asus eee PC or the MSI Wind or something of the sort.

Why? Simple. When you're carrying your stuff around, it get heavy. You don't want to lug a 10 pound brick everywhere you go just so you can play games on medium. That isn't fun. Trust me here. When you're on the go, you don't need power. You need portability. You need to type notes, access internet, etc. When you get back to your dorm, then you can game. On that $1000 desktop, you can easily play at high settings on a 22inch monitor. If you get two machines, you get better mobility, higher gaming performance, and you still have $700 in your pocket. Now that's sweet. :thumbsup:

you sir, have changed my point of view, after this post and the newegg. page, ive seen good $$ laptops and $$ desktops. might get both of them with the same shipping ... but heres the thingie .. desktop will be for gaming, laptop is going for the university, my career is Computer engineering or Computer Systems Engineering w/e you want to call it .. so obviosly im gonna need a notebook to run some specific Computer engineering software .. so if anyone has some experience with THIS kind of situation plz help me

^ Thats what i have, and it treats me good when gaming and working in Uni, but i use a Zalman Laptop cooler to keep its temperature at average.

It takes notepad and a command line to do 80% of that. All modern IDEs work on vista and anything else you run into can be tricked into running on vista with some compatibility settings.
