So what's the verdict on the new Geforce GTX 280's? It seems that the Geforce 9 cards were not such a big leap up from the 8 cards, is it the same for the new line? I am asking this as I have around £1900 and I'm wondering if I should wait a while before upgrading my 7600GT.

My specs are listed below, they acheive a ":hmm:" 4126 marks in 3dmark06

• Asus P5VD2-MX (more)
• C2D E6700 (2.6ghz 1066fsb)
• 2GB DDR2 533 (4-4-4-12)
• 7600GT

I have a 15" 1024x768 monitor, so high-resolution frame rates do not concern me. I play Team Fortress 2 mostly, I would like to put the settings to max running on XP. My motherboard has a PCIe x16 slot, I'm under the impression any card should work in that (bar AGP ofcourse) and that PCIe2 is backwards compatible.

So what graphics card would you recommend? Should I get one of the new GTX 280s? or one of the other cards? or wait even more.

At the moment the new GTX280/260 are a HUGE rip off. Wait a few weeks for their price to drop.

Do you really need a GTX200 for 1024*768? I think an 8800GT would do fine for you.

Oh, lol 1024x768, you just need a 9600gt. A GTX280 would be like using a Bugatti Veyron to do the school run, overkill to the max.

Dont get a new graphics card. Invest in a new monitor first.

What's wrong with a high end card on 1024x768 :p That'll certain get nice frames in Crysis.

lol I know what you're saying it's just i'm a little reluctant to stop using my current monitor (i wouldn't like having it lying about not being used*). Would a 1280x1024 monitor be more suitable?

* - and before you mention dual screen, I prefer dual screen setups to have the same screen res on each monitor!

Because, a 8800gt would perform the same as a GTX280 on a 15". You can get a relatively cheap 22" that runs at 1680x1050. Most gamers use those now due to their good price point.

Depending how ATI's new cards turn out even at a reduced price the GTX280/260 would still be a rip off.

Just get an 8800GT/9600GT and it'll still be enough if you upgrade your monitor later.

1280 would be a minimum 1024 is really just painful to play at. I give you props for doing that. A nice 19" normal screen or a 22" wide will do you good.

Alex is right, at 1024x768 an 8800GT will be able to play Crysis on very high with 2xAA and decent FPS.

Nope. I have a 1280 x 1024 monitor right now and have a 8800GT. At these low resolutions it's not worth buying any card better than the 8800GT or 9600GT. Go to newegg.com and buy yourself a 8800GT XXX for $180 and you'll be fine. I got about 50 FPS playing medium with Crysis and over 100 FPS playing BF2 maxed out, so you shouldn't have a problem playing TFC2 on high.

1900£ is way too much mate, All u need is a good 45nm chip i.e. E8400 and whatnot, tyhe 65nm chips i.e. the E6750 is great too.

For the gfx stick with ur 76GT, until prices drop for the GTX200s.

Yes, the 9800GTX+ is another new card lol. I believe it's to compete with the HD4870.

HD4850s are on newegg going from $199 to $169(after rebate) but an 8800GT/9600GT might still be a better buy since they usually go for $140 or less after rebate
