I have been wanting to play battlefield 2 and 2142 for awhile now (with the heatwave there really hasn't been much to do until my pool gets put up) My D drive is fried. Being that I share this computer I am forbidden from doing anything internally to get the games to work. I was looking for an external drive that will allow me to at least play the game. I searched newegg and all I can find are dvd burners. Can anybody point me in the right direction for getting an external dvd rom drive?

I can't thank you enough for showing me that. Unfortunately i am going to be a pest one last time and ask 1 more stupid question. I found 2 that are cheap and seem like what I want. With my lack of knowledge I don't know if they are the right things I need. One is a CDRW/DVDROM combo drive.

The costs of a DVD/everything drive vs a CD-ROm drive are not much.... and to be honest it seems many companies are phasing the CD-ROM drives out and even the "cd burners only".
That one should be plenty for your needs and even does just about everything without you spending a arm and leg.
I made that choice cause it was cheap and will do the job since you didn't give a budget amount to shot for.
NOW... if you want to avoid buying the external drive.... you could just get a friend to extract the files from the disk to a USB thumb drive... install the games and use Daemon Tools with a mini-image to play without even using the disks. It will make a "FAKE" disk drive that the game will look into for the disk/image and then start right up. Its very rare that I keep any of my disks in my drives

I would also strongly recommend this idea. $55 isn't worth an external DVD-ROM drive. The mini-image works perfectly and is free. Here's the link on how to do it. And since you don't have a CD-ROM drive already, you could just download the Mini-Image. Images and mini images are fine. Just don't bring cracks into play, they are illegal and against the rules here :)Comment
