USB device displaying wrong information?

I'm having this weird problem with my USB device where it displays, I guess, the wrong space left. Alright, so check it out:

When I goto Computer and right click on Removable Disk ( J: ) and select properties it tells me there's 6.45GB used and 1.48GB free. Well, when I go into the Removable Disk ( J: ) directory and select all the folders, then right click and select properties it tells me there's 2.94GB used.

Is there like 5GB of mysterious files taking up my USB device, or what?

I assume that you are showing hidden files?

Showing hidden files? There are no hidden files, only those folders with files in them. None are hidden though, or at least to my knowledge aren't. How can I check if they're hidden or not?

You need to get into your folder properties Tools,Folder Options, View, look down a little and it should have two places to check one for Do not show and one for showing hidden files. But either way there are prob certain files that are rather large somewhere taking up the space. I suggest backing up what you want to keep and format that sucker and don't worry about it no more.

This USB device is really stupid. I put a bunch of music on it, and today I put it into the PC and it's all gone.

I reformatted it and it seemed to working fine. I put about 1.5GB on it and used the "safely remove hardware" thing. Put it back in the PC, and everything was there and in working order.

After that I decided I would add 1.78GB of music onto it. After it finished copying, I right clicked on the folder and checked if it was 1.78GB and it was. Once again I used the safely remove hardware. I plugged it back into my PC and the MUSIC folder was empty. Not only that, but now when ever I put something on it and unplug it, then plug it back in, it becomes a blank file/folder.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Your USB drive is broken....failing or just gone bad. Time to replace it.

It might be a fake.. I bought it on eBay awhile back and it doesn't have a name brand. Cries :cry:

umm no they are not all the same... If that was the case he wouldn't have gotten screwed by the one he got off ebay.


I recommend a Corsair Drive... i've got a few of them and they haven't had a problem yet.

you will have to watch specials then..

I went looking for you and you will find a 8gB Flash drive by OCZ for 23$ after Rebate..thats the best your going to get for now.

don't expect much cheaper than that for a 8GB drive thats worth a damn... you get what you pay for.
