It does make a small improvement with naff speakers, but combined with soem good speakers it is alot better than a onboard/cheap speaker combo.

Lol, for a proper audiophile, it is no where near as good. The quality simply isn't there and the advanced options are really useful when playing stuff loud or through earphones.

The onboard I'm using is twice as good as many add on cards on the market right now. Speakers and settings do most of the work beyond the output of the source.

However I'm dead set on when I say that I wouldn't piss on a burning Creative Card after the crap they have put their customers through.

Do you guys really think it's worth it to spend an extra ~$90 for a sound card? These cards costs more than my graphics card. :|:

9600GT + onboard sound > HD 3650 + fancy sound card

Well I just recently bought the Logitech X-540 Surround Sound Speakers and I have some nice Logitech gaming headphones, so it should work out fine :).

I use an Audigy 2 ZS with the same surround speakers and icemat headphones. Been lovin it since my BF2 days.

I tried that very same card against the onboard that is on my current gaming rigs motherboard and the onboard sounds exactly the same...tweak the audio settings and I'm sure it would sound better.


When I had it with Vista it was worthless.

The Creative X-Fi Platinum was only $60, which is a pretty good deal since it costs $170 on newegg, so I just had to buy it. Hopefully it works out great when it gets here.

When I had it with Vista it was worthless.

I noticed differences in not only gaming clarity but also music and the like. But it's been several years since I got it. Back when AC97 was onboard. I figure why the hell not use it if I've still got it and my drivers work perfectly fine?

Yes, maybe compared to a £10 sound card. But, get a nice Creative, Auzentech, Asus sound card and there is a clear difference. You probably don't have the hardware to fully reproduce good sound.

A good sound card is nothing without a set of semi-high quality speakers and/or headphones.

I got Fata1ty's headphones... What are really good(IMO)... And im pretty sure that you'll guys will suggest to get some SkullCandy's or something else..

Anything over 30-40 bucks is usually a safe bet. Not suggesting that price should be the number one thing in a quality standpoint. But USUALLY you get what you pay for.

I paid 30€ for the Fatal1ty headset. And im very happy that i got them.

I have had those really cheap headsets earlier. And i have managed to break all of them. Well technically it wasn't my fault. It was that the sound disappeared from either of the headphones...
