Samsung hard disks are very good. Ignore System.

All the reviews say they are good and every manufacturer sometimes has a bad batch.

All Hard disks can fail.. it's just a lottery, and Samsung have got good reviews. It has a 2 year warranty anyway, and I won't have anything of crucial importance on there

Ok it was just the one but still - who needs 750gb neways? I prolly only use 100gb total myself.. Why don't you just get a nice cheap seagate beracuda 320gb for now and then buy second hd when you need it or is raid important to you?
Larger drives have a higher areal density making them faster. I could also do with high capacity as I'll be using it to store TV programmes that my family records (Not enough DVDs lol) as well as video editing as my Mum wants to get a camcorder

And those speakers seem over priced to me. You should look @ the z5300 I think :)
Um.... £200 as opposed to £51? There's no way I want to spend that amount.

Re: Yet another "My new PC thread"

Sorry for the epic revive, but I'm ordering this weekend and just thought I'd check I haven't missed out anything stupid or made a major mistake:

        Q9450 (Scan) £204.41
        P5Q-E (Scan) £98.69
        OCZ 4GB Reaper 1066MHz (Ebuyer) £68.21
        Sapphire HD 4870 (Ebuyer) £179.99
        Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB (Scan) £61.09
        Optiarc/NEC AD 7200S-0B (Scan) £15.03
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro (Scan) £14.91
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer OEM (Scan) £51.52
        Antec P182 (Ebuyer) £85.99
        Coolermaster Realpower 620W (Scan) £69.90
Vista Home Premium 64 bit OEM (Ebuyer) £58.75
        Logitech G5 (Scan) £30.89
        Saitek Eclipse II (Ebuyer) £23.49
        Logitech X-540 speakers (Ebuyer) £50.99
        HP W2408H monitor (Microdirect) £302.98
Netgear HDBX 101 homeplug (Ebuyer) £81.98
        Total: £1398.82

The netgear homeplug stuff is required because I want to have the PC in my room and wi-fi is unlikely to be reliable due to the number of walls in the way.

For the graphics card, would Sapphire or Gigabyte be the better bet bearing in mind that they're about the same price? I'd heard from friends that sapphire are a good make, but I was speaking to someone in a computer shop the other day who said they get a lot of them back broken. I personally have always used Gigabyte in the past.

For the 4870, Powercolour do the cheapest cards.

And, can you spend an extra £10 and get a Corsair HX620W over the Coolermaster PSU

Finally, Arctic Freezer 7 isn't much good for quaddies. It's ok for dealing with dual cores and lightly OC'd Q6600's, but it won't do to well with a Q9450. May i advise a Tuniq Tower is possible.

Re: Yet another "My new PC thread"

The Tuniq is nigh on impossible to get hold of and overpriced when available, so I'm reluctant to go with it. Do you think a Zalman CNPS 9500 AT would do for my purposes? If not, which other sub-£30 coolers would be better?

              Xigmatek HDT S1283

It's one of those coolers that isn't a big brand name, but has been made very well and works a treat. It's a favourite amongst overclockers at the moment because it's cheap and effective.

Yeah, I was considering that one after Tom's HW reccomended it.

Have you got some Arctic Silver 5? Only costs a few Quid.

Just a quick query; do you think I could get away with a 520W PSU (as some Hexus members have suggested) as the TX650W is out of stock at Ebuyer and Scan atm, and I don't want to pay the extra £20 for the HX 620.

I think the 520W should be ok..Corsair are very good...
