8800m Vs 8800

Ok i need some constructive criticism here.

Last night i was arguing with a mate about performance.

He is willing to put money for a laptop. I suggested Build a PC, Unless that laptop has like an 86/95 gfx and all you want to do with it is use it for uni.

He suggested that he wanted a 'Powerhouse' Laptop equipped with an 88.

Now i argued with him, rather than spending 1500+++ quid, building is easier.

Now seriously people, is an 88M better than an 88Desktop. Performance wise, Not mobility.

Um, no. It's probably the same power as an 8800gts 320mb/640mb.

Performance wise a laptop won't be as good, because of:

- Overheating.
- Slower hard drives.
- Slower CPU's.
- Power requirements.

GPU wise, this site says that a 8600GT is technically faster than a 8600M GT:

I would imagine it would be the same for the 8800 series, but I couldn't find a comparison.

Umm yeah, any laptop card is inferior to it's counter part desktop part. I don't think there are questions said.

Which in turn makes your question ... a bit rhetorical, performance wise and not mobility wise?

I mean, if you are going to get a laptop, I would think about mobility wise..

I know Vika, i just wanted to show my firend that I am right and he was wrong :) and thats that. I mean when looking at a Laptop, you are looking for mobility, a good multi tasker, able to play games at an acceptable rate. imho as a hardcore gamer/multitasker.

For example take a look at me, Before i left Bahrain for Uni, i was in the market for a laptop with a mid range card and a C2D at an affordable price. I found one in the US from a custom gaming website (i.e. the likes of Cyberpower) i ordered it, it came with a C2D T7500 (ofcourse i had to customize it, i.e. change a few settings), 86GT, and 2gb of good ram and only costed me a mere 1400$ USD, which aint bad. And it performs marvelousley with my games. And i also did minor tweaks and upgrades later.

Ne ways i was only proving a point for my biased friend And i do use my desktop as the main gaming system.
