Vista Aero..

I can't seem to get my pc to run Vista Aero.. it used to always work before but for some reason when i go to personalize > windows color and appearance settings and try and apply Windows Aero it just says "loading" then it just go's back to windows vista basic... wtf is going on?

im running Vista HP 64-bit

Try running the Windows Experience Index, sometimes if its rated too low or unrated Aero wont launch.

i tried that and it still doesn't work

do you have any programmes open at the same time? I cannot run aero whilst i am using Macromedia fireworks 8 because of conflicts so it may be conflicting with a program.

Yea, you have a background program running that is not compatible with Aero. Type "MSconfig" into run and disable all but the absolutely necessary programs in "startup", reboot, it should be in aero.

Re-enable them one by one until you find the one turning off aero.

Have a look in Event Viewer as well as it will show what is disabling Aero (listed as "Desktop Window Manager", and should show what program is requesting to disable it.

Also have a quick look in Services and make sure the "Desktop Window Manager Session Manager" service is running and set to auto.

i closed some stuff in task manager and it seems to work now i don't know what it was but next time i start my pc up and it happens again ill pay attention to what i close and fix it from there :) thanks for the help guys!
