Help: Subwoofer Installation

Tried Google, didn't work.

1000W Sony XPLOD Subwoofer
1000W Sony XPLOD 1 Channel MOSFET Amplifier

I pretty much have everything setup, except the connection between the subwoofer and the amp. I'm not sure where on the amp I should plug the positive and negative cables coming from the subwoofer.

I have this setup:

High Level Input--------------------Speaker Out
(+) L (-) (-) R (+)-----------------(-) L + R (+) (-) L + R (+)

I'm almost positive I plug it into the Speaker Out side, but not sure which of the two.

Also wanted to make sure, the cable that runs from the radio to the amp is supposed to be connected to the INPUT or OUTPUT on the amp?

Last, where should I set the Filter, Low Boost, and Level at?

You need a Low Pass CrossOver Click - First off

Okay:

You take the RCA cables from the back of your stereo, to the amplifier, where it will go into the AUDIO IN. Then you would have the amp run in Mono Mode, and use any of the AudioOut (Speaker Cable's, not RCA) and run the ground, to the subwoofer ground. Then you would take that LowPass CrossOver I showed above, and it would go on the positive side, just one side on the cable come out of the amp, and the other side going into the subwoofer.

You DO NOT want the cross over that I linked you to, you want one that is compatible with 1000w's. Go down to somewhere that specializes in car audio, and ask them which kind you need, and then they can tell you in more detail how to install.

WARNING!!! do not turn your XPLODs up too high or they will pop.
What gauge wire are you using for this? It should be 0/1 gauge @1/2/4 ohms or you may experience problems down the road.

Is this what you're saying to do? If not, let me know what I did wrong. Also, what should I do with the REM on the amplifier? I'm pretty sure that's REMOTE and it should also go to the car stereo using the blue wire that was included with the wiring kit, correct? If so, where exactly do I put it in the car stereo? Also, is the low pass crossover filter necessary? My friend has his subwoofers working fine without it.

Remote is a wire that recieves a small current to tell the amp that the stereo is turned on, so the amp should turn itself on, or stand-by vice versa.

Remote, afaik, is usually pink, but it should be marked in a wiring diagram on top of the unit. But basiclly, it just goes from the head unit, to the amp.

MAKE SURE - You need to run the Power Cables on one side, of the car, and the RCA's / speaker cables through the center, or on the other side. If you don't, you will get a whine, that will get more high pitch as your RPM's go up.

And yeah, that diagram looks right, other than the REM wire, which isn't there yet.

I'm pretty sure you SHOULD get the xOver. I don't personally have one since on my sub, it's powered, so the xOver is built in. But my dad, who did Car stereo for over 13 years, says you should have one.

And TheHeartSmasher, we know it's not "Manly" subs (ignore that line Sam :P )

Yep, they are you regular Billy Bob subs but those 1,000 watt sub needs a 0/1 gauge wiring kit running at 1 to 4 ohm for the best performance .

I'll have to go ask a professional about the xOver because I have no idea what kind to look for. As for the REM, my stereo has a REM input for this type of jack:

Should I just like cut it off something I don't use and connect it to the wire, or should I go to Bestbuy or something and buy a specific one for it?

So if the REM isn't connected, the amp won't turn on, correct?

Ya I know they're not the best subs, but I wasn't looking into spending a lot on really good ones. I don't really need/want anything better at the moment, especially since I don't have a new car yet and don't want to replace the battery and alternator on this one.

First of all, when sony lists the wattage of their audio stuff, they are listing the MAX MAX power that your equipment will ever be able to handle. I believe that sub only handles about 400 Watts RMS which means it will play about with about 400 watts of continuous power. Therefor a 4 gauge wire or lower will be plenty good and give you enough headroom.

As for the the low pass filter and stuff like that its a good idea to use it. If your amp has a "subsonic filter" make sure it is switched on (never turn it on or off when your system is playing). Basically when it is "on" it will cancel out all the sounds that the human ear is incapable of hearing. That way, your subwoofer is beating the notes that you can actually hear.

Second off, the low pass crossover thing Is good too because it will only send a specified frequency to your subwoofer. Mine is set to play anywhere between 0hz and 80hz, which is just the bass notes. If you set it too high, it will try to play notes that are treble and it could possibly damage the sub. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Have you mounted the fuse to your power wire for your amplifier as well? If you haven't it would be a good idea to hook one up unless you want your car to burn down to the ground.

My setup, 2 10" RE audio hooked up to a kicker mono amp. Mono amp pushes about 500W RMS and about 900W max. Running on 4 guage wire and it beats very hard.

I have the fuse and everything else setup, just need to hook all of it up to my car. Only thing I'm stuck with at the moment is the REM. See, my REM on the stereo has a jack input, so I somehow need to connect a jack to the REM wire and then plug it into the stereo.

But, what I need to know is what to set the Low Boost, Level, and Filter at. Also, since I'm connecting the subwoofer to one of the L + R speaker out connection, I leave the other L + R connection alone, correct? I'll provide some pictures tomorrow or wednesday of everything.

Will it be alright if I wire it with the 8 gauge wires for now? And, do you know where and what kind of low pass cross over filter to purchase for my setup? Reason I ask on here is because I know for a fact Bestbuy will rip me off. I asked them how much it would be to install my subwoofer and amp and they told me $150.

That's actually a decent price since it gets done right :P

But the REM wire is a wire coming from the back of the stereo, and will just be a regular wire, not a rca looking one.
