2 routers...

Well basically I have a router in the upsatairs of my house and I want to get anotehr cable down to my room. The routerhas a free port but I dont want to bring anotehr cable through the roof as thatwas just too much bother. I have another router in my house but when I try to use it as a switch but plugging the cable in my room then bringing to cables from it to my xbox and pc theres a problem. WHen the other pcs in the house and the laptop restart or have to connect again they try and connect to the router in my room which im using as a switch. The router isnt wireless so I dont know why tyhe laptop isnt working. When the computers boot up they say new network found or ssomething like that and connect to itr fine, but cant get internet acess for it. So what I am asking is, is there any way I can disable networking in the router ? or is that all in the hardware. Are there any other solutions? Do I just need a switch and not just a router?

Yes for a switch...and yes for disable network..just get into network properties and right click on the adaptor and click disable.

I get the impression he wired a router through another router.

I have no clue as to why it shouldn't work. Make sure the second router (the one not connected to the telephone/internet socket) is in bridge mode - you can usually set this up on the internet configuration page.

Im having a hard time understanding what he even wrote.

but if your wiring a router to another router, use a crossover cable going from router A's lan port, to router B's lan port.

^^(side note: I wired a 2nd wireless router to my first wireless router using a crossover cable and setup a 2nd wireless channel/ssid to connect to in an area where the first wireless routers signal is very low).

yeah same here..I kinda made a assumption and went with it, easier to just use a switch and let it go...plus cheaper.
