Dual rail PSU amperage

Since the original thread got derailed and now they're talking about fans and GPU temps.

Is this enough to run a EVGA 8800GT?

It's a dual rail power supply with 20A on each +12V. I'm not sure how to calculate the total amperage. My 8800GT's box says it requires 26 amps on the +12V.

Depends... what else you running in the computer to compete with the watt draw. I'd say your best bet is to get a PSU with a single rail of 30+ for that they are pretty cheap now and I recommend PC Power and Cooling :thumbsup:

You combine the amps on the +12V rail. My PSU has four +12V rails each with 18amps, so 72 amps in total

You combine the amps on the +12V rail. My PSU has four +12V rails each with 18amps, so 72 amps in total

wrong.Almost all come from the same rail so you can't just add them.my psu has two +12v rails at 17A each but i Can't just add them and get 34A.

That is why Pc Power and Cooling use one 12v rail.

You need to get a PSU using a single rail of 26 or more amps for your card... don't go cheap here since you need to treat your PSU like your heart which supplies the blood to your system.

I have a Corsair 450VX, 33 amps on the +12V, should be enough. :)

But really, I haven't had any problems with the 20A dual rails except for one time, should I really bother swapping it?
