Video Encoding/Decoding Smearing/Artifact Error

If anyone is a god at encoding/decoding and knows what would cause a sudden "burst" of a multi-colored artifact smearing effect that stays on frame usually until a new cut.. it would greatly be appreciated. It's driving me crazy.

When I play back the clip before uploading it, I see nothing wrong with it on my end. Yet, when i send it to people or upload it to streaming sites, they appear. I have vista. I use virtual dub to encode it, but I have also tried divx converter. I tried both xvid, divx, and even wmv and they all have something wrong. I've also .rared a raw .avi file and sent it to an XP computer for encoding, and it still seemed to have artifacts.

I'll give you any details you need upon asking, otherwise, here are some clips that feature this error.

Artifact is 34 seconds in.
Sound is not synced, more artifacts present.
at the very end of the "titles" as well as 33 seconds in.
http://www.leettube.com/view_video.p...53c90338cdc8bc The beginning titles especially.

If you need a downloadable version of it, I will host it so you can see it. Whoever i send it to usually can see artifacts as well, irregardless of what video player they use.

Thanks

if anyone cares it was caused by network corruption, thanks for the help

I had actually thought about it, but couldn't figure it out. :hmm:

Re: Video Encoding/Decoding Smearing/Artifact Error

Awhile back a teammate recommended me to change my network settings from auto negotiation to 10 MBPS half duplex to try to fix another lag issue i had at the time. (Big mistake, usually changing network settings will get you nothing but trouble) It didn't work and i never changed it back.. so everything i uploaded (maps, zips, pictures, movies) were corrupted. Typically the bigger the file, the liker it will be corrupted.
In the video, the codec was trying to pull data that was not there.. resulting in the smearing/artifacts of the data that should be there.

Makes sense when i encoded it fine with my XP computer, uploaded fine with youtube. But when i uploaded it again to machinima.com, it had artifacts (since i used my vista computer). Also makes sense why the artifacts were randomized during multiple uploads of the same video to youtube or an FTP. And finally, it makes sense why the artifacts appeared in the same spot one of the videos-- people were uploading the already corrupted video.

I finally figured it out when I saw pictures were being corrupted as well, not as often... but if you upload enough, you will see errors as well. Even cod4 maps that were uploaded to servers did not work (continuous loop on the server) So if anyone searches this issue, just try looking for some of these clues to rule out network issues
