    sound skip/distortion and cpu problem

Ok for about 5 days now, I have been having this sound issue. The sound lags, skips, and is distorted. Also, I think this might have something to do with my CPU, as it usually idles at like 3%, where now it is idling around 50-70%. The temp is usually like 72F when idling, but is now around 85F when idling. My mouse also lags sometimes.

This all started on Sunday when I was playing Flight Simulator X. My computer all of a sudden crashed after I switched to an outer view of my aircraft. The sound skipped and I got a really low FPS right after changing the view, and that's when it crashed. It had to do the hard drive checks, and the BIOS is now taking a lot longer to load then it did, along with the overall boot time of the computer. It's almost like FSX did something, but what would it have done? I don't know...

At the time, I had my GPU slightly overclocked, my CPU overclocked from 2.33ghz to 2.45ghz, with increased voltage ofcourse, and that's it. These settings have been like that for a while though, so I really don't think they had anything to do with the crash.

Thanks for any help in advance! Let me know if there is any more information needed!

Virus or malware. Sounds like it.

Break out the anti-spyware and anti-Virus software and get zapping.

At the end, download "HiJackThis" and post a log of the findings.

Also try your cpu overclock without the voltage increase..that little increase shouldnt need more voltage(heat) throught it...

yes well, i tried that back when i did the overclock, and it was unstable. so i added the voltage for stability.

alex - yea, thats what i was thinking. my Kaspersky Anti-Virus has been running a full system scan for about 12 hours and 45 minutes... and only at 85% done. So it should find anything, if there is something like a virus.

I think its probably a virus.

Also run anti-spyware, not just anti-virus.

Find out what is making it idle so high.

Task Manager --> Processes tab --> Click the CPU column twice

Is there any one process that is eating lots of CPU? (System Idle Processes is normal)

no, there is nothing there besides the system idle process that is taking up any amount of cpu that would cause it to go that high... its like something is running in the background

fully update it and run its full scan!

also a better freebie anti virus -> www.avast.com

but yeah posting a hijackthis log would be nice.

But the good thing is that it wasn't a virus, right?

                          lol jake!

No, it wasnt a virus, thankfully. Although, I'm almost glad this happened, because I downloaded quite a few programs to remove viruses, spyware, malware, adaware, trojans, blah blah blah. I ended up removing tons of things, especially spyware, that I didn't even know I had!

Thanks for all of your support guys - I appreciate it!
