2 Gb of gfx card memory is just plain overkill. There aren't any games that utilize that much. When there are, the 9600gt will be completely obsolete.

Correct. The 9600 GT isn't exactly top of the line now either and you'd get better performance by using two 88's in SLI instead.

and 512Mb for each card is more than what you'll need as it is.

but ya never know till ya try it out ..
there no reason not to test it out ..
no card setup yet can consistantly play crysis at 70 fps and above...

and yea i know is a shiyy game thats why it cannt be done yet but i wana be ready for battlefield 3, i have a good idea its going to take a lot more to run it...

think of it this way..rember when your pc only utilised 1 gig of ram ? or even 512 and you upgraded, rember how much better and faster it was ?

          i do...:)

2x 8800GT's will always beat out 2x 9600GT's, it doesnt matter how much video memory it has.

Also, you cannot compare video memory to your system's RAM, the way they are used and their performance advantages are different.

                What resolution is your monitor?

There is something that you really need to understand:
The human eye cannot detect the difference between 60, 120, and 180 FPS. Unless you're using like a really high resolution monitor and/or running Crysis on high, TWO CARDS WILL NOT BE BETTER THAN ONE.

You're 3Dmark score will be higher and your specs will be better, but you won't be able to tell the difference.

Furthermore, You will never use 2 full Gb of RAM, EVER.. There are NO games that take that much video memory. When there are, 2 9600's will be like completely obsolete. Adding more video memory won't just automatically make your PC faster. You can only add RAM to the point where your game isn't using any more, and that stops way before 2 Gb.

I can run just about every game (except crysis, which I don't own). On full graphics with my 8800 GT with only 512mb of RAM. So what games do you have that need 2 Gb?

edit: Especially don't think this will make you happier or your games more enjoyable. Even if you actually doubled you're PC's performance you wouldn't be happier than me with my single 8800GT.

It just pisses me off when you guys ask for advice, then a bunch of people tell you you're wrong. Then you argue with us and tell us we're wrong. You were the one coming to us for advice.

second edit: it looks like you're only runing a 1280x1024 monitor (from the size of the screenshot on your other thread). In that case you DEFINITELY won't need SLI. Anything over one 8800GT will not show any improvement except maybe for crysis.

QFT, i have to agree with Jake here, here is my thought on the topic:

                  SLI USLESS!

                  tri sli: ULTRAUSLESS

QUAD Sli: Nuclear power plant failure

and 2gb of Vram for GFX you must be kidding me lol OVERKILL! no need for it 2gb of gfx will prolly be needed in the far future.

Here's you answer if 9600GT in SLI is worth the money. It seems that it is.

9600GT SLI= a single 8800GTS in most cases, if you overclocked a 8800GTS it would always be equal or superior.
