In a few year everything PC wise will be obsolete, I think Quad core has future potential games like Far Cry 2 or maybe something else will. I use my PC not only for gaming, but most people do and Dual core processors are more then enough for them.

In a few years the quads will be dead cheap, so i say get a C2D for now then upgrade when its actually needed.
