It's me again :D COD4 lag/FPS

Hey guys,

So I just got my PC reformatted and bassically "Cleaned the slate". You can see my rig in my profile thing.

So the issue. Before I upgraded (added 2 more GBs so I had 3, bought an 8800gt 256mn). My COD4 SP has been doing great :yay:, 155 FPS when I'm walking around , and 40-50 in a fight. Now multiplayer is the problem, I get around 24 FPS :shakehead: on almost lowest possible settings. Why would SP get such wonderful FPS, and multiplayer get such low crap and lag. I made sure there's no anti-virus or anything disturbing. I also set my NVIDIA settings to "High performance" instead of "Quality". But still no luck.

Do any of you have suggestions on how to "Fix" this. So I get good FPS like in SP.

The video card is not that good, you can't be cheap about graphics cards when it comes to video games, 256mb on a card is not enough these days. The RAM even if its DDR2 is enough to support COD4 so thats good (I have 2GB DDR2 Crossair). You just need to get a better GPU. Try getting at least 512mb memory GPU or SLI the card with a second 8800GT 256mb.

Here are COD4 requirements:

I have an old ATi RX1900 512mb and my COD4 runs on 90FPS on low setting in multiplayer and 60FPS on high settings. In single player it run smooth at 80 FPS on high settings.

Turn off vSync in options if it is on...

Evant is right here, 256MB is getting out of shape, you are better off with a higher Ram card i.e. 512MB, either SLI but i don't think thats for the best, i would say sell your card and get another one with 512MB either an 88GT 512 or 88GTS 512, HD3870 which ever appeals to you the most in price the performance is good one all cards i mentioned.

The 8800GT 256 MB is just not enough. You'll need to upgrade to something that's at least 512 MB.
In the mean time, make sure all your COD4 gfx options are at their lowest setting. Make sure vsync and anti-aliasing are off too like Dan2k3k4 said.

I'm not expert on this although I'm pretty sure: with a P4 processor wouldn't you be bottlenecking your card as it is? (cue Alex :p). Before you upgrade your gfx card you'll need to upgrade your CPU too, which you'll need a new mobo for, etc. Looks like its time for a new pc.

Hmmm ok. I see what you mean, and about the bottlenecking.

How does this sound? I would replace that graphic card with my 8800GT. Or will they both work togetherr?

Another question. When they say 3.0 Duel core. Does that mean it's 3.0 GHz in all, or 2 x 3.0 = 6-0GHz ?

Get a Core 2, something like a Q9450.

The 8800GT 256MB is NOT the problem; I barely rinse out 320MB in BF2 at a resolution of 1920x1440 with 4xAA, which is one hell of a load on the graphics card, regardless of game. Chances are you're at around 1280x1024 and your graphics memory is far from being saturated.

On a more realistic scale - get rid of the Pentium 4 ASAP and avoid AMD. So that leaves a dual/quad cored Core 2 which still wins, 2 years on. It's almost certainly your CPU because you get 155fps walking around - that means your graphics card isn't having any issues with memory swapping (if it did, you'd be getting far less - on the order of 40fps).

No, 2x 3.0 GHz doesn't = 6 GHz- it means that there are two cores running at 3.0 GHz. The speed of a processor in Hz is the number of clock cycles per second. Dual core means that (theoretically) twice as much can be done per cycle.

agreed. Quads are nice, but there aren't demanding enough games to utilize all 4 cores.
Its no good for futureproofing for gaming either. In a few years your "futureproofed" quad core will be obsolete just as much as an E8400 will be.

In a few year everything PC wise will be obsolete, I think Quad core has future potential games like Far Cry 2 or maybe something else will. I use my PC not only for gaming, but most people do and Dual core processors are more then enough for them.

How do you find out how much ram your graphics card is using?
