The 8600 series is dead. 9600GTs are going as low as $130 now. HD 3650s have the same performance for 70 bucks. So save up for a bit and get a 9600GT.

Thanks, I was only looking at Newegg. The cheapest there was $118 for Chaintech (vever heard of them) after rebate.

I think you will have your friend a pretty nice rig setup.

the procs i linked are pretty good BUT don't take my word for it so ask other people's opinions as well.

About the GFX issue here, you will be saving yourself the money and performance by getting a 96GT or HD3850/650s i dunno much about the 88GS i guess it should be up there somewhere but still i would recommend the 96GT over the HD3*** and the 88GS if you are on a strict budget.

canadian: ncix is US and Canada.

8800 GS = very bad deal.

Personally, I would still probably go with the 8800GT over the 9600GT. The 9' series won't get good until the G200 (or 9900 or whatever they're calling it these days).

256mb isn't usually enough nowdays, especially on a good card like the 8800gt

That baby is better than you're current choice and will easily overclock over 3.0 GHz.
(its not the best, but the cheapest I could find on newegg)
I dunno about mobo's for around $50 though. I would shell out anothe $50 and get a Asus P5k if you can afford it.
