I recently made a thread talking about the horrible stutering and lag I get in both Portal and HL2:EP2. The whole problem all along seemed to be the NVIDIA forceware Network Access Manager causing the game to lag. After doing yet another reformat with windows Xp, I chose not to install the NVIDIA forceware Network Access Manager. Now the games run beautifully! but I have run into another problem. For some reason, my PC will suddenly just lose internet and I don't know why. It seems to happen only when I'm playing steam games :|: and will force me to reset my modem and have to wait 10 minutes before my connection comes back. According to
threads I have read, the NVIDIA forceware Network Access Manager is just a firewall so I'm not sure why this is happening.

I had that at home, and it was my ISP didn't like the way Steam communicated to the main servers, and so Tiscali intentionally slowed down the packets and sent connection termination ones.

I heard about a similar case with Tiscali which had gone to court and the man had one, so i took a few days worth of "tracert" logs rang them up, talked to the manager (who was enjoying the Indian sunny weather) and told him if they didn't let Steam run properly i would take Tiscali to small claims court.

I had seen the same problem descriptions from people in my part of the country on the same ISP, so i assume it was a relatively local issue.

Sure enough, within 48 hours i was fixed.

But, yea, your issue, are you on wireless? Go into control panel and look in network connections. Disable Windows from managing the network connection. Your network card's utility should take over.

No I'm not wireless. It's a hard line right into the PC.

How exactly do I tell windows to disable from managing my connection? sorry lol..

God knows. I did it on my brothers PC. Windows stopped managing the connection and instead his Asus Wireless app did.

It stopped the "connection problem" error every 30 secs whilst he was playing BF2.

Get rid of Windows Firewall for a start. Get Comodo firewall.

Then just browse the properties.

I've never had a problem with WF. This crap only happened after I chose not install the Nvidia firewall.

I wouldn't get rid of windows firewall in place of comdo.. its just no need.

But I'm curious..you prob have two ethernet ports in the back.. I suggest plugging into Local Connection 1 and enable it and disable the other one to see if that solves a issue. Otherwise make sure your updated with the proper drivers.

Well, just make sure your not running two firewalls. They can conflict and cause problems with connection.
