20GB for OS and programs that insist in installing themselves where they wish.
Rest of my 230GB for everything else. In organised folders though.

          4 partitions.
One for windows, one for swap, one for apps and data and one for dual-boot O/S. Combine that with Norton Ghost with allows me to create a copy of a entire partition, and I can pretty easily reconfigure the system.

I would probably go for RAID1 if I had to build a new system, but I do have a subscription to a online backup service, which takes a daily backup of "My documents" and a few other things.

But RAID doesn't help against theft, fire etc.

What backup strategy does people use? Digital cameras can use an amazing amount of diskspace, so Online backup is too expensive. On the other hand I never seem to get around to burning those DVDs and storing them off site.
Maybe one should buy a couple of external HDs and keep one offsite, switching them once a week?

Re: How do you manage your storage ?

160GB for Windows, 160GB for Ubuntu.

When I get my new PC, I'll have 2x 250GB drives in RAID 0
My plan is to have partitions for:
                • Windows (OS and programs)
                • Ubuntu (OS and programs)
                • Documents, settings, bookmarks etc. (Windows)
                • Documents, settings, bookmarks etc. (Ubuntu)
                • Documents, data, videos, music and other large files (Shared)
