How do you manage your storage ?

    Hey
Since I'm getting my own new computer, I was wondering how you guys were organizing your storage space.
Just say how many drives you have and, it any case, how you split them.

    My actual 'family' computer :

    250GB Western Digital
    . Partition 1 (130G): C\ - System files and programs only
. Partition 2 (110G): E\ - Media and graphics (movies, textures, samples, etc.)

    40GB Western Digital
Unpartitioned (40G): Z\ - Personal data (home data, photos, music, school work, etc.)

I split them like that, so when I reinstall Windows, I keep my data files safe.

Im just wondering on my next system if I should just use one big 320G drive or maybe partition it into 2.

    Here is a nice setup:
    1 WD 80GB 10,000 RPM Drive
    -Windows Operating System Only

    1WD 160GB 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
    -Only Video Game Installs

    1WD 320GB Drive 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
    -Software Installations, Data Files, etc.

    1WD 40GB Drive 7,200/10,000RPM Drive
Reading Documents, Tutorials, saved web pages, etc.

    10TB+ 10,000RPM Drives (Not Needed )
-Data, Scratch Drives for Video/Photo/Sound Editing/Rendering
--These drives don't have anything on them and are used for Adobe's Scratch Storage ...and fill up really fast...

          Two drives in RAID 0.

C: partition of 30GB for OS and basic programs
D: partition of 436GB for Games, data, heavy programs.

External hard drive to backup anything important.

            320GB drive (~300GB usable)

            100GB = OS/Applications/Games
            200GB = Storage (music, pics,video)

Re: How do you manage your storage ?

                  2 x 160gb in RAID0 Array (320gb total)
                  2 x 400gb in RAID1 Array (400gb total)

All apps, images and speed reliant data go on the RAID0
Media, work and everything else goes on the RAID1 so if one hard disk fails, i still have a full backup of it :)

Yup, they are in RAID1 which means one disk is a perfect copy of the other. So, if one disk breaks, i have the other with all the same data on it. Redundancy ftw.

Re: How do you manage your storage ?

I've got 5 PC's at the moment.. one acts as a server running 4 750Gig SATA drives for data storage of anything I wish to save even from the early 90's I have stuff on it.. hell I looked the other day and I still have crap like WinNuke from the Win 95 days

All the other PC's have only one hard drive and none are over 120gigers... my main gaming rig has a simple 74gig Raptor as I only run games on it and nothing else..fully stripped down System!

I've got 2 External HDD's I built myself out of a 2.5laptop 60gig drive that I carry around with odd ball stuff on it everywhere.. I go it goes! A 160Gig 3.5 that I leave on my desk hooked to my Gaming machine to save patches on once I'm done with them...if it fills then I take the drive out and store it in a static bag and put a new one in it which I've done once so far as the first drive was only 80gigs at the time.

Got a very powerful Server co-located in Chicago running 15K SCSI's that I use for my game servers but I also use it as a middle point of FTP transfer from any location in the world..just in case I'm somewhere and I wish to save something and I may not be within reach of my external :)

Last I've got 3 Flash Drives.. a small 512mb for pocket use when I go to work on someones computer, and two 2giggers for whatever comes up.

I have a 320gb salvaged from some other computer, and I just lump all my stuff into that. (I have a external backup drive though.)
