    Ubuntu help

Hey, General somewhat new to Ubuntu, used it on my fathers old Laptop. But anyways,

I was on Ubuntu last night, working fine. Start it up today, and I don't load the GUI right or something. I can't get to the desktop, instead I get the flashing box and have to enter me user and pass through there, even after that. The desktop won't show.

I didn't do anything to it, but please help? Very much..

Screenshot below from my camera phone, to show what i mean.

Try Ctrl Alt Backspace to restart the GUI. Otherwise, if the home folder is on a separate partition you could try reinstalling.

Go into the device manager in BIOS and disable/enable sound devices as appropriate (You may be set to integrated sound when you're using a sound card).
