Virus Programs

I'm currently using AVG for most viruses and Ad-Aware SE for ad ware. I wanted to ask if there's any other programs I should use to scan my computer for other kinds of threats that those two programs don't cover/won't pick up.

If you can provide me with some information on this topic it would be greatly appreciated. Also, let me know if I should exchange my current programs for any better ones - if there are any.

I'm mainly asking because I just scanned with AVG and Ad-Aware and what was surprising, was that, Ad-Aware picked up a Trojan but AVG didn't pick up anything.

Nod32 is a very good anti virus but you have to pay. a-squared free is good for adware,malware & spyware, spybot s&d is also a very good anti spyware, malware, adware prog. You might also want to get ccleaner to clean up your cache files from ie or your web browser, it also speeds up your pc too.

Alright, I downloaded CCleaner and Spybot S&D, thanks for the information. Can you tell me though, does CCleaner delete anything you need or use? I've ran CCleaner before and it showed a huge list of things and asked me if I want to delete them... and I don't want it to delete something I need.

I also tried fixing the registry and asked me to delete some things. Not sure if I should go ahead with this or will it mess something up.

You don't need multiple virus and spyware programs on your computer. Just use Spybot S&D and Adware SE. As well as a good firewall and you should be fine.

I have Threatfire, its a firewall/virus/malware/spyware scanner. Not bad, but when its on your computer, you must click allow or not allow to every program you start up. For instance, any games you want to load onto your computer, you must tell Threatfire to allow the file path to continue.

Its worth it though. And for an fyi, free stuff isn't always bad, no need to spend money on stuff you can get for free.

ThreatFire looks pretty interesting. It's a separate virus program right? I'm asking because they chart on their website confuses me... it says "w/o ThreatFire" and "w/ ThreatFire" to different kinds of programs - as if it were like an addon to those programs.

Aside from that though I have a question for people that have ThreatFire. Is it any good and should I uninstall Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware SE, and AVG and just install ThreatFire since it's pretty much all of those put together?

I agree with Dan here.. Avast is one of the best Free ones out there.. its even better than many paid programs...light on the foot print, once registered good for 16months and you can re-register it for free again along with daily updates...sometimes a few times each day!

As for this.. Spybot is ok..just don't use TeaTimer..its annoying and useless. Ad-aware doesn't have the detection rate it used to...I suggest www.superantispyware.com its Free and has the best detection rate I've seen in a while...also daily updates here but manual done. Mix Avast,spybot and superantispyware together It should nail out a pretty hosed system unless you have some pesky winsock dll's that just won't go away. I clean PC's on a daily bases and highly recommend the above in which I just said.


But the Search feature is great here...try it some time! :) Here ya go

Forum searches are over rated.. :p. Thanks for the information. I think I'll do as you said - mix avast with spybot and superantispyware.

For me SpyBot S&D has been pretty useless...

But it could because of an Spyware Blaster/SUPERantispyware/Ad-Aware SE combo that i have..

I also have Kaspersky Internet Security as my firewall/anti-virus program... I gotta say it's amazing(allthough you have to pay for it)... It found 2 viruses what F-secure didn't(don't know why, since they use the same definitions)...

Spyware blaster is good because you don't have to have it running on the background. Just update it and click 'enable protection to all' and close it.. That's it...

SuperAntiSpyware cleaned my friends PC from malware. SpyBot couldn't find any of them...

And Ad-Aware is good to run once in a while to get rid of all the tracking cookies an so on...

This is cause both clean different things... perhaps you should research the differences.
