Well I idle with about 1GB of ram used so I would say it is, I could get it lower but I don't see the need. £30 is the cheapest DDR2 will get, now that it's being replaced less companies will start making it and the price will go back up as the demand goes down.

Yes it is worth it, as 4gigs goes best on Vista.

Ok, I've taken your advice onboard and chosen this RAM:

4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, PC2-6400 (800), CAS 5-5-5-18

However, to keep the overall cost low I've decided to opt for the P31 MoBo Powderhound suggested. But on closer inspection I saw the following message on the motherboards specification:

Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel (e.g. DDR and DDR2), or populate 4 DIMM sockets with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to start or incorrect detection of memory modules. Please refer to the user manual for the memory configurations table.

Because of chipset limitations, when using FSB 1333 MHz CPU with populating all DIMM sockets, memory frequency will be reduced from the original, and system instability or incorrect detection of memory module may be occur.

Seeming as I'm only going to be using 2 DIMM sockets I don't think this will be a problem. But I just want to pass it by you guys before I order anything.

4GB is a good idea for Vista. When I was running Vista it typically took at least 800MB just when idle. And since you'll be running 64-bit you'll be able to use the full 4GB :yay:
