need help

Hi all, For some reason I'm getting horrible stuttering in two of my Steam games; Portal and HL2 EP:2. It happened in vista so I thought it was a vista issue but after reformatting again with xp, it still stutters...It's a stuttering that makes the game feel skippy while I play. For some reason, it does not do this in HL2, HL2EP1, TF2, and CSS. I also reinstalled the games but no luck.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
3 Gigs DDR2
EVGA 8800 GTS 320mb
X-Fi Fatal1ty pro. series

This was happening to me also, back when the first patch for TF2 came out. It was a big thing on the steam forums too.

It happens to Portal, TF2, HL, HL1, HL2. I just give it about a minute to load up once its at the main menu and that does the trick.

back off on some ram...try one stick at a time, might try memtesting them cause it sounds like a ram issue.

This is a guess at this point till I get home and think about the problem some more but wouldn't hurt testing.

Yes sava but All my other games run fine. It just happens with these two games.

well if other games run fine then its the prob with the games you listed. As ausdenaschen*di* said its a common issue with Steam, its fine shouldn't worry about it as steam will get it fixed.
